Not hands. Not unplanned action! Yes! The reasoning is obvious! In other words, we shouldn't rush into action on important matters. It's far better to check out possible alternative solutions. Consider the options logically. Choose the best. And proceed. Yes. That's how we can save time and do things right! And, yes, we can thus also learn to develop innovative ideas!

1950s: School Kid On Bombay Metro Cinema's Stage During Movie 'Kim'

The movie based on Rudyard Kipling's novel Kim was released at Metro, Dhobi Talao, Bombay, in the early 1950s. Starring Errol Flynn, it was about an orphaned English boy played by Dean Stockwell who is caught up in a spy intrigue in Kashmir during British rule. To attract school children Metro arranged a painting or writing competition. I took part in it. As a result I got a free ticket and had to go up on the Metro stage during the show's interval. I was expected to make a humorous speech. The subject I chose was: If I Was The Food Minister. I think India's Food Minister then was Shri Jagjivan Ram. I doubt the speech I wrote and learnt by heart entertained or amused anyone. But as a kid I enjoyed the opportunity to go up on the Metro stage and, of course, the free movie ticket.

Memories....And Regrets Not Staying In Touch With Dr. Nancy Brash, Our Head Of Medicine , C.M.C.

An excellent teacher and physician, Dr. Nancy Brash was Head of Medicine at C.M.C., Ludhiana, the medical college I went to. Her father was a renowned Anatomist in U.K. His book guided our anatomy dissections in college. Dr. Nancy Brash was kind and considerate, a wonderful lady Occasionally, I and a student colleague would drop in at her quarters when she was free. After she made a coffee for us, we would take on roles in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and read out the dialogues for our roles. I was usually Marc Antony. It was fun! But my great regret is that after leaving medical college I could have had the happiness of continuing to stay in touch easily with her by email. On retiring, I suppose, Dr. Brash would've gone back to U.K. and Scotland.

Memory Times: 1940s :Joining J. N. Petit Library In Bombay When I Was Eight

I must...must...visit my old haunts in Bombay again!

In the 1940s, when I was eight years old, my father enrolled me as a member of the J.N. Petit Library of which he was a member. The library was located on Hornby Road in the Fort area of Bombay, close to Flora Fountain, the virtual heart of the city. Much later, before moving with my family to Bangalore, I paid a one-time fee to become a Life Member of the library. I still get the library's annual report by post.

The Petit Library building is in a Neo-Gothic style. It's beautiful, with ornate windows of coloured glass panes, including some pictures of the library's founding family. On the first floor are stacked the books we can take out for reading.

But the very first books my father showed were not meant to be lent out. They were ornately illustrated copy of one of the early translations of the Arabian Nights.

In his memory when my beloved father passed away, I asked them to give me his membership ledger number.

Seen Town Called Madras in Oregon, U.S.A.; But Not Delhi, Near New York

I've been to Madras (Chennai) in India many times. So, too, Delhi in north India. And I visited Madras, a small town in the state of Oregon, U..S.A. once. There's a Delhi, New York, too butt I have not been there. And I heard there are more Delhis in U.S., even some villages, confirming of course that America was discovered by European explorerswho were trying to find a sea route to exotic India. Such venture would also confirm, in those old days, that ours was a globe-shaped earth.
