Memories 1956: Brabourne Stadium, Bombay: Australia Test

Memories 1956: Brabourne Stadium, Bombay: Australia Test

Brabourne Stadium was in those days the home of CCI, the Cricket Club of India. All important cricket matches including Tests were played there. So that was where in 1956 I watched an India-Australia Test and saw Neil Harvey score a century. Named after Lord Brabourne, a British governor, the North Stand of the stadium housed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters. In 2006 the BCCI was moved to the  nearby, newly-built Wankhede Stadium. Big names in Indian cricket included, far as I remember, spinners Subash Gupte, Vinoo Mankad, and Jasu Patel, and batsman Polly Umrigar.
