Wonderful Dog Tale: In Memoriam -2

After our daughter went to Purdue, our other two children left to study in the U.S. The daytime maid or my wife or I would take Dixie for a walk. Then my beloved wife passed away. And I was left alone with Dixie. Then, every alternate year or so, I would go to the U.S. for six months to be with the children. Before leaving I would place Dixie in a farm which took care of pet dogs when their owners were away. Each dog was kept chained in a kennel and there was space outside (with a ledge around it) where he could sit in the open. He would be chained in the kennel and I would sit on the ledge, pat him and talk to him. The moment I stood up he would get up too. And when I started moving away he would tug at the chain and start howling. I would go back, sit and talk to him again. He would calm down. After that was repeated two or three times I had to leave. When I finally reached the road to get into the car, he would go crazy howling. But I had no choice. I had to go.
Six months later when I returned to India and went to pick him up, Dixie would be the happiest dog in the world!
